So, just to prove that prayer does work, maybe not always the way you want but it does work, here is an update on the IRS situation:
Jeremy and I met with our assigned IRS rep and we came up with a payment arrangement that works out for everyone, the IRS gets their money and we are able to feed our family. The IRS will place a levy against all of the accounts we currently have with the collection agency and get the bulk of their money from that. Whatever is left over, the money "held in trust" that we are responsible for will be taken from our tax return for the next 100 years (or whatever), and no monthly payments are required. The bright side of this, as she put it, is that our returns are all from government credits since we ultimately don't pay any income tax thanks to the good old tax laws of the US of A. So in essence the government is paying themselves.
Now, I would have loved it if we would have went in there, proved it was a financial hardship, and they agreed and said we didn't have to pay the money back, but it didn't work that way. Instead, we proved it was a financial hardship and they figured out a way for the money not to come out of our monthly budget. So things didn't turn out the way I would have liked, but God kept food on my table, a roof over our heads and clothing on our backs, which is ultimately what was wanted anyways.
